Culture Talk and Drum


The event has 2 sessions - Begins with a Talk session and follows with a West African Drumming (Djembe) experience. Speaker Makha Diop, was born and raised in Gorée Island, Senegal - A a UNESCO World Heritage site. The talk covers an introduction to Africa as a continent, and highlighting the precolonial history of West Africa (the Mali empire) to the modern day. The speaker, as an artist himself, believes the rhythm and music not only carry history and culture, but a deep call of resilience and conscious awareness. Traditional West African Music is deeply communal and historical. Rooted in oral tradition, the music integrates rhythm, interaction and storytelling that bond communities, celebrate life events and pass down heritages.
Follows by a drumming experience workshop, participants would be able to find connection of the knowledge and the drum and express through it.

 

文化講座:故與鼓


活動包含兩個環節:先是講座,接著是西非鼓樂(金貝鼓/Djembe)體驗。主講Makha Diop 出生並成長於塞內加爾的戈雷島(Gorée Island)-這是聯合國教科文組織認定的世界遺產地。講座內容涵蓋非洲大陸的概覽,並著重在西非前殖民時期(馬利帝國)至今的歷史變遷。身為藝術家,Makha 堅信節奏與音樂不僅承載著歷史與文化,更蘊含著一種關於韌性與自我覺知的呼喚。傳統的西非音樂具有濃厚的社群色彩與歷史底蘊。這種音樂植根於口述傳統,融合了節奏、互動與敘事元素,不僅維繫著社群紐帶,更用於慶祝生命重要時刻及文化傳承。

*Culture Talk and Family workshops have limited spots and require registration.
*Programmes are conducted in English with Cantonese interpretation
*The presenter reserves the right to substitute performers, speakers, instructors, and change the programme should unavoidable circumstances make it necessary.
* 文化講座及親子工作坊名額有限,需報名登記。
* 節目以英語為主,輔以粵語進行。
* 如遇特殊情況,主辦機構保留更換節目、表演者、講者及導師的權利。
