SANKOFA is a sacred ancestral term meaning ‘to retrieve’ in the Akan Twi language. The Akan Tribe is part of the larger Ashanti group of people from West Africa.

“se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi”

which when translated means:
“We must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward -
So we understand Why and How we came to be who we are today.”
‘To go back’ doesn’t only mean searching backward on the physical timeline. It also indicates the importance of looking into the internal light.
